NLN Simulation Innovation Resource Center (SIRC)

National League for Nursing Simulation Innovation Resource Center courses are an online e-learning solution for simulation faculty and staff development. Laerdal, in collaboration with the National League for Nursing, are partners for consulting, education, and support.

Anytime. Anywhere. Learning.

NLN Simulation Innovation Resource Center courses are an online e-learning solution for simulation faculty and staff development. The SIRC courses are designed for faculty and staff development, and include topics covering everything from the basics of integrating and debriefing simulations, to conducting evaluation and research. Continuing Education (CE) credits are offered for each of these courses.

SIRC Foundation Courses

The SIRC Foundation Courses are designed as a virtual, asynchronous, and self-paced experience. Institutional purchases are sold in groups of 10. Learners have access to these courses for 12 months (once a code has been activated).

Assessment & Evaluation - Examining Learner, Facilitator, & Program Outcomes

This course examines concepts of simulation evaluation and assessment. Learners will describe methods for evaluating students, faculty, and programs. Considerations for choosing an evaluation tool based on select situations are included. Four (4) Continuing Education (CE) credits are offered at the completion of this course.

Interprofessional Education - Leveraging Sim Strategies for Team Development

This course aims to build a foundation for undersanding interprofessional simulation-based education. Participants will explore definitions and competencies of interprofessional education. Strategies for designing, implementing and evaluating interprofessional simulation with educational and practice setting will be examined. Four (4) Continuing Education (CE) credits are offered at the completion of this course.

Prebriefing & Debriefing - Facilitating the Learning Experience

This course explores the theoretical, philosophical and essential elements of prebriefing and debriefing to help learners achieve outcomes that can translate into future practice. Learners will have the opportunity to explore how to craft a prebreifing that creates an ideal environment for experiential e-learning to occur and practice mirco skills that build knowlege, skills, and abilities essential for theory based debriefing methodologies used in simulation. Six (6) Continuing Education (CE) credits are offered at the completion of this course.

Facilitator - Exploring Roles in Sim Delivery

This course uncovers the knowledge, skills and abilities that support a simulation facilitator in delivering a successful learning experience. Becoming a simulation facilitator requires the development of a subset of roles that are leveraged at various phases of the the entire simulation experience. Roles include: prebriefer, debriefer, evaluator, mentor. Particpants will also explore how a facilitator prepares before, responds during and reflects after each experience. Four (4) Continuing Education (CE) credits are offered at the completion of this course.

Curriculum - Understanding the Curriculum Map for Thoughtful Sim Integration

This course describes how to utilize a systematic approach for intefrating simulation into the curriculum. Methods for assessing curricular gaps are included as well as guidelines and considerations for incorporating simulations as a teaching strategy. Four (4) Continuing Education (CE) credits are offered at the completion of this course.

Modalities – Exploring Sim Features

This course examines simulation modalities and methods for increasing fidelity and realism. Theory and standards are presented to guide the development of simulation scenarios and the influence of modalities and fidelity to the learner experience and achievement of outcomes. Four (4) Continuing Education (CE) credits are offered at the completion of this course.

Foundations – Laying the Groundwork for Teaching with Sim

This course lays the foundation for understanding the basic pedagogy supporting simulation in nursing education. Learners will explore theories that support the effectiveness of simulation as a teaching strategy and examine best practicie standards for simulation design and delivery. Four (4) Continuing Education (CE) credits are offered at the completion of this course.

SIRC Deeper Dive Courses

The Deeper Dive Courses are designed as a virtual, synchronous experience, with expert simulation educator facilitation. Approximately 1 hour of preparatory work may be required prior to attending the synchronous session. Course-related content will be accessible for 3 weeks.

Curriculum Deeper Dive – Creating a Comprehensive Map for Thoughtful Sim Integration

In this course, participants strategize methods for incorportating simulation across the curriculum. Course activities will prepare participants to align simulation modalities to the level of the learner, course objectives and course environment.

Evaluation & Assessment Deeper Dive – Creating a systematic Plan for Success

In this course, participants create a comprehensive simulation evaluation plan. Course activities will promote examining exisiting standards, guidelines, and tools for evaluating the learner, facilitator, and program.

Prebriefing & Debriefing Deeper Dive – Navigating Challenges & Leveraging Opportunities

In this course, participants apple key principles and mirco skills used to facilitate a theory-based prebriefing and debriefing. Immersive practice using example simulations provides participants with opportunities to gain insight and feedback on their prebriefing and debriefing strategies.

Facilitator Deeper Dive – Advancing Facilitation Roles in Sim Delivery

In this course, participants advance their roles as facilitators by immersion intor real-world sitations that both challenge and expand their application of simulation teaching strategies. emphasis is placed on developing the knowledge and skills required to identify a course or program need, integrate a solution, and evaluate the outcomes that guide student learning.

Institutional Access to SIRC Courses

The SIRC courses can be purchased through Laerdal Medical as an institutional license to provide staff with access to some or all SIRC courses. The institutional access is valid for 12 months (once a code has been activated) and enables you to offer the SIRC course(s) to your staff. If you are interested in an institutional account, please reach out to us via the “Request More Information” form below.
