2021 Heart & Stroke Feedback Requirements

Measure to Improve

Meet the 2021 Heart & Stroke Feedback Requirement with Laerdal’s Resuscitation Training Solutions

The 2015 Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC highlighted research showing the benefits of feedback devices that provide learners with real-time, audio-visual corrective feedback on aspects of CPR. Studies show that feedback devices help students achieve mastery of critical CPR skills and shorten the time from demonstration to competence.

As of February 18, 2021, Heart & Stroke will require the use of an instrumented directive feedback device in several of its courses.

This new policy requires feedback devices in the following courses:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • ACLS for Experienced Providers (ACLS EP)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS)
  • First Aid courses where BLS is also taught (SFA-BLS and EFA-BLS)

The policy recommends the use of feedback devices in the following courses:

  • First Aid (SFA) (SFAR) (EFA)
  • Heartsaver®
  • Hands-only CPR programs
