Baby Agness was not breathing when she was born at Chongwe district hospital in Zambia. Thankfully, Midwife Hamalala had been trained in Helping Babies Breathe and was able to resuscitate her. Soon after, Agness and her mom were able to leave the hospital and return home.
Naomi’s baby was not breathing when he was born. The midwife, Faith, had been trained in Helping Babies Breathe through Laerdal Global Health and began bag and mask ventilations. Within minutes, Naomi heard her baby’s first cry. Naomi’s baby survived.
Ester gave birth to her first child at Chikwa Health Center in Zambia. After delivering, she continued to bleed heavily. With the nearest hospital 6 hours away, Ester’s life was in the hands of her midwife, Musama. Fortunately, Musama had been trained with the 10,000 Happy Birthdays project and knew what to do. He managed to control the bleeding and stabilize Ester, ensuring her survival.
Just after Joyce gave birth to her baby girl, she started to bleed profusely. The midwife, Juliet, realized that Joyce needed help right away or she might die from blood loss. Juliet had been trained in the Helping Mothers Survive - Bleeding After Birth program so she was able to identify the problem quickly and stop the bleeding.
