Important Information Regarding LSU Battery

Laerdal Suction Unit (LSU) when used with the LSU NiMH Battery at low temperatures

The purpose of this webpage is to alert you to a problem that may occur while using the Laerdal Suction Unit (LSU) with the LSU Nickel Metal Hydride Battery (NiMH) when the battery has been stored or installed at temperatures between 0 °C and 9 °C (32 °F and 48 °F ).  The issue is the potential shut down of the LSU if its NiMH Battery core temperature rests within the identified range and the suction called for exceeds 200mm Hg.

Laerdal Medical offices in the U.S., Canada and Latin America have released the Urgent Field Safety Notice provided by LSU manufacturer Laerdal Medical AS in Norway.  It provides information and instructions for users to follow in the event a LSU shutdown is experienced.
Please carefully review all attached/linked documents and ensure that all personnel responsible for the storage, maintenance, charging and use of the Laerdal Suction Unit are fully aware of this information.  The Addendum to the Directions for Use is available for download also on the LSU webpage and it is important that it be understood and attached to the LSU  Directions for Use booklet.

In the Americas, initial importer Laerdal Medical Corporation, NY has contracted with safety program services provider, Stericycle, to provide full logistical support in the Americas for this notice and related follow-up communications.

Laerdal Medical AS expects to have information on a  long-term solution for this issue in  October, 2016.  Additional Information links regarding this field notice:
