National EMS Week

May 16-22, 2021

Join us as we celebrate those who are a part of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS). This week, we thank them for their bravery and selfless contribution toward making communities safer.

For EMS Week, we would like to thank those in EMS for their contribution to making our communities safer and healthier. This year, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) have announced that each weekday carries a different theme. We’d like to share some information related to the individual themes below.

Monday – EMS Education Day

EMS is a critical component of the nation’s healthcare system. A rapid response rate, as well as an accurate assessment and diagnosis, set the stage for positive patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. Many EMS systems use simulation training helps to ensure that EMS professionals are prepared to face real emergency cases.

Tuesday – Safety Tuesday

In the chaos of an emergency call, it can be difficult for EMTs and paramedics to protect themselves from potential threats. Organizations and their workforce can benefit from deliberate practice with a focus on reducing the spread of infection.

Wednesday – EMS for Children Day

Each year in the U.S., over 7,000 children experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Their chances of survival are largely dependent on whether bystanders and practitioners act with the same confidence and skill set with which they would treat an adult. Learn how increasing the frequency and quality of hands-on practice for pediatric resuscitation can help.

Thursday – Save-a-Life Day (CPR & Stop the Bleed)

Hemorrhage is the second leading cause of death for patients in the prehospital environment – accounting for 30-40% of all mortality. Training bystanders in bleeding control can help them to feel empowered to act in an emergency.

Friday – EMS Recognition Day

EMTs and paramedics are real-world heroes – to those whose lives they save, families and loved ones, and their surrounding communities. Read Carlos’ and Joshua’s inspiring story about how their skills, decisiveness, and resilience under pressure resulted in saving 13 victims in the Pulse Nightclub shooting in 2016.
