A hands-on newborn resuscitation training program by the American Academy of Pediatrics, based on the latest WHO guidelines. HBB was updated in 2017.
HBB is part of the evidence-based suite of training program called Helping Babies Survive. HBB Second Edition is currently available in English*. The second edition focuses on quality of care and uses the latest scientific updates. It harmonizes with the 2015 ILCOR guidelines as well as the 2012 WHO Basic Newborn Resuscitation Guidelines.

The Helping Babies Breathe curriculum includes:
A simple, pictorial, step-by-step wall chart for neonatal resuscitation.
A simple, pictorial wall poster outlining how to correctly disasemble, clean and disinfect neonatal resuscitation equipment.
An educational tool to assist and guide HBB instructors to train healthcare providers to help babies breathe at birth.
An educational guide and quality improvement tool for healthcare providers to help babies breathe at birth, to be used both during the training and in the facility.

Helping Babies Breathe - Lessons learned guiding the way forward (A 5 year report fromt eh HBB Global Development Alliance)
On-site, brief and frequent HBB simulation training appears to facilitate transfer of new knowledge and skills into clinical practice and to be accompanied by a decrease in neonatal mortality. (Reference, 2015)
HBB implementation was associated with a significant reduction in both early neonatal deaths within 24 hours (47% reduction) and rates of FSB (24% reduction). (Reference, 2013)
