vrClinicals for Nursing

vrClinicals for Nursing is a unique VR solution that helps students build measurable competence in clinical judgment, allowing them to practice effective time management, prioritization of patients, delegation, and communication with patients while caring for multiple patients in a busy, hospital setting with interruptions and evolving patient conditions. Aligned with the Clinical Judgment Measurement Model, vrClinicals has been developed as a collaboration between Laerdal, Wolters Kluwer Health, and the National League for Nursing.
Save time and resources on multiple patient simulation setup! vrClinicals gives you flexibility and simplifies the preparation and facilitation of the engaging clinical experiences your students need, enabling you to free up resources and achieve higher throughput.
No need to recreate or modify content: it is co-developed with National League for Nursing to ensure relevance and medical accuracy. vrClinicals is solution you need to efficiently teach clinical judgment, multi-patient prioritization skills and communication with patients, as well as ensure maximum knowledge retention. The scenarios are standardized, so learning outcomes can be measured. It also helps you understand and debrief student’s rationales for making decisions.
Get the most out of your studies in a virtual environment where mistakes are allowed and feedback is given so that you feel competent and confident in your clinical judgment skills, your ability to prioritize patients and manage time effectively, and in communicating with patients. The self-reflection exercises and measurable feedback will help you take a step back and reflect on how you can become an even better nurse. Overall, vrClinicals can help to ease your transition to practice.
Increase your school’s reputation in developing competent and confident nurses, through easy virtual clinicals that don’t add to faculty burden and focus on developing the clinical judgment, prioritization, and communication skills necessary for today’s low-staffed hospitals.
vrClinicals has expanded beyond medical-surgical multi-patient scenarios with the launch of our new pediatric single-patient scenario, which focuses on delivering age-appropriate care and allows students to communicate with both the child and the accompanying parent, enabling them to practice family-centered care. vrClinicals for Nursing continues to raise the bar for student preparedness in clinical judgment and prioritization.
Students will be immersed in a virtual hospital that includes the distractions and complexity of the real-world clinical setting.
Scenarios with 1, 2, 3 or 4 patients focusing on prioritization and effective time management.
Aligned with the Clinical Judgment Measurement Model, students are required to recognize and analyze cues in handover reports, electronic health records, and assessments. They will prioritize hypotheses, generate solutions, take action, and reevaluate patients.
Life-like conversations powered by Samaritan enhance communication training and simulation fidelity, enabling students to practice patient communication by directly speaking to the virtual patient who responds as a human would.
In scenarios where a support person is accompanying the patient, students can practice communication with both the patient and the support person.
Students will experience interruptions and evolving patient conditions, requiring them to analyze the situation and reprioritize patients.
Students need to consider effective time management, including whether to do a task themselves or delegate to an unlicensed assistive person or another RN. They can also call a colleague such as the provider.
Reflection exercises prompt students to reflect on their experience, and automated feedback and scoring helps them understand opportunities for improvement and provides an easy way for faculty to measure the growing competence of their students.
With a fully self-guided simulation experience, vrClinicals is instructor-light. In addition, its teleportation feature minimizes the space needed for each student.
A screen-based simulation app for Windows and Mac computers offers an alternative to learners that experience motion-sickness or dizziness in VR.
“This is an amazing virtual reality product to help nursing students at all levels hone prioritization and clinical judgment skills.”
– Melody Bethards, EdD, MSN, RN, CNE, CHSE-A
Nursing faculty and simulation coordinator, Des Moines Area Community College
“It was just enough urgency. I did feel the stress, that was perfect. That was exactly the right amount, and it was very similar to what you would see in clinical.”
– Leila Casteel, DNP, APRN, NP-C
Associate Vice President, Curriculum & Innovation at Herzing University
It's very exciting and it’s something that students will love. I think that they will find this a positive learning experience. It'll push them but it'll be in a way that they can make sense of it.
– Patti Allard, PhD, MSN, RN-BC, LMFT
Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Undergraduate Nursing at University of Texas Arlington
