MamaAnne Wins iF Design Award for Innovative Health Product Design

For over 70 years, the iF Design Award has been awarded annually to recognize excellent designs. As one of the more celebrated competitions, it garners over 11,000 entries from 66 countries.

We are proud to share that MamaAnne® has won the 2025 iF Design Award. Chosen from thousands of entries, MamaAnne stood out for her functionality, user-friendly design, and contribution to improving maternal healthcare outcomes.

Laerdal’s iF Design Award Honors
2025 iF Design Award (MamaAnne)

2024 iF Design Award (AED Trainer)
2023 iF Design Award (Little Anne)
2022 iF Design Award (RQI-P Go Simulation Station)
2009 iF Design Award (CPRmeter)

These factors are crucial components of the iF Design Award, highlighting the importance of leveraging technology to enhance the user experience. To tackle this complex challenge with an emphasis on impact, functionality, and quality, a robust strategy is essential.

"In design, we take a holistic approach, beyond just how the product looks," says Bram van Krieken, Design Director, Patient Simulators & Skills Trainers at Laerdal Medical.

This perspective is epitomized with the latest offering of MamaAnne, our advanced maternal and birthing simulator.

"Current obstetric simulators are often cumbersome and intimidating. Many features that could support important training remain unutilized. Our goal was to simplify setup, operation, and cleanup to lower the barrier to training." says Bram.

MamaAnne was created as an approachable simulator designed for immersive learning. Interaction areas for simulation participants are clearly differentiated from interaction areas for instructors and technicians: The organic external surfaces and split lines closely mimic human anatomy, enhancing realism for simulation participants. In contrast, the inside of the product features geometrical shapes and cool grey colours. For instructors and technicians, internal touchpoints have colour contrasts for immediate identification.

"Receiving the iF Design award for MamaAnne is a testament to the incredible teamwork across all development disciplines”, says Frederik Hansen, Vice President of Design at Laerdal Medical. "This recognition highlights our focus on meaningful impact through our high standards of realism, functionality, and ease of use."
