Conflict Minerals Policy Statement

Conflict Minerals Policy Statement

Laerdal Medical support ending the violence and human rights violations in the mining of certain minerals from a location described as the “Conflict Region,” situated in the eastern portion of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and surrounding countries.

On 21 July 2010, the Dodd‐Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act was signed into law in the US. The Dodd-Frank Act and related U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission rules require certain companies to disclose the extent to which the products they manufacture or contract to manufacture, contain so‐called conflict minerals sourced from mines in the DRC or adjoining countries.

Conflict minerals include tantalum, tin, tungsten, and gold, which are used in many electronic components and computer products.

As a global producer of training and medical products, Laerdal Medical promotes the traceability of these minerals and the transparency of the supply chain. Laerdal Medical firmly believes that its customers should be fully informed about the products they purchase.

Important information on the use of conflict minerals in the technology supply chain is being compiled by the Electronics Components Industry Association and the Electronics Industry Citizenship Coalition. This information may be viewed at Home (ecianow.org).

Laerdal Medical ensures compliance with these requirements, and asks its suppliers to undertake reasonable due diligence with their supply chains to ensure that specified metals are only being sourced from: mines and smelters outside the “Conflict Region,” or mines and smelters which have been certified by an independent third party as “conflict free” if sourced within the “Conflict Region.”

Laerdal Medical fully understands the importance of this issue to its customers. Therefore, Laerdal Medical is committed to supply chain initiatives and overall corporate social responsibility and sustainability efforts that work towards a conflict-free supply chain.

We are encouraging all of our suppliers to likewise support these efforts and make information on the origin of their product components easily accessible on their websites and through Home (ecianow.org).
