Emergency Department
Using simulation to achieve quality improvement (QI) in the Emergency Department (ED) brings everyone together to understand and solve problems under conditions that mimic real life.
Simulation is widely used and appreciated within hospitals, traditionally often as a method within education and training. Hospitals use simulation to maintain and develop competencies and confidence of individuals and teams. And it provides an opportunity to train and prepare for critical situations together.
Simulation is also a powerful method for examining the interaction of people and teams across workflows, spaces, and technology. Within our complex and adaptive healthcare systems, we see increasing use of simulation as an arena for problem-solving and co-design, channeling the perspectives of staff and patients into system improvement.
