ICM, Chief Executive
Sally Pairman PhD
Sally has an over 35-year career spanning all aspects of midwifery – practice, education, regulation, professionalism, and politics. Her previous roles included: President of the New Zealand College of Midwives, inaugural Chair of the Midwifery Council of New Zealand, and Head of Midwifery, Professor of Midwifery, and Director of Learning and Teaching at Otago Polytechnic.
Sally holds various academic qualifications including a Doctorate in Midwifery and has authored numerous papers and books including co-editing an Australasian Midwifery Textbook (now in its 4th edition). Sally is passionate about midwives and midwifery and believes strong midwives’ associations can incite changes in their countries to ensure strong midwifery professions and midwife-led continuity of care services for women and their families.
In 2008 she was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to midwifery and women’s health.
ICM, Chief Midwife
Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent OBE
Jacqueline has served for four years as the first Chief Midwifery Officer for the NHS in England and was one of two National Maternity Safety Champions appointed by the Department for Health and Social Care. Jacqueline is a registered nurse and midwife and a visiting Professor of Midwifery at Kings College London and London South Bank University.
She is the chair of the maternity advisory group for the Health and Race Observatory in England, a member of the Women of the Year management committee, Midwifery Ambassador for the ‘Saying Goodbye’ charity and until recently, a trustee for the RCN Foundation.
Noted as one of the Health Service Journal’s (HSJ) most influential people in health, in 2020, 2021 and 2022 she was also selected from over 100 nominations for inclusion in the Nursing Times’ Leaders 2015 list, that celebrates nurses and midwives who are pioneers, entrepreneurs, and inspirational role models in their profession. In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the NHS in England in 2023, she has just been recognized by the Nursing Times as one of 75 nurses and midwives who have contributed in a significant way to the NHS.

Anna af Ugglas
Anna has a broad professional and clinical experience as a midwife since over 30 years. She also has experience as a teacher in nursing. In August 2010, she joined the UNFPA as a Senior Programme Specialist in Midwifery, posted in Bangladesh country office until 2013. Thereafter, she served for UNFPA in Lao PDR for three years, supporting the midwifery development in the country. Following Lao PDR, she worked for the World Health Organization as a consultant in the Maternal Newborn and Child Health Department well as the WASH Department,
Anna joined Laerdal Global Health as a Global Program and Implementation Manager in 2017, leading the P&I team forward in the overall mission of helping to save the lives of mothers and newborns. Since 2022, she is assigned as Strategic Partnership Manager, focusing on midwifery education globally.

Josefine Törnqvist
Josefine Törnqvist graduated as a registered nurse in 2021 but had a dream to become a midwife. She worked as a nurse at the emergency department at Danderyds Hospital, travelled to Kenya to work at a hospital in Nairobi, and worked in a gynecological ward before she started her studies to be a midwife in August 2022.
After graduating, she has continued and furthered her research with BB Stockholm, a birthing clinic.

Luka Van Leugenhauge
Luka graduated as a midwife from the Artesis University of Applied Sciences Antwerp in 2012 and earned an MSc in Nursing and Midwifery from the University of Antwerp in 2014. She subsequently worked as a midwife at the GZA Sint-Augustinus fertility clinic in Wilrijk, as well as in the private practice of Prof. De Loecker and Dr. Geysenbergh in Antwerp. Since 2016, Luka has been employed at the AP University of Applied Sciences Antwerp as a lecturer-researcher within the Midwifery program, focusing on the application of immersive technology in both teaching and research. She is passionate about international collaborations that intersect education, healthcare, and virtual reality.
