Join us as we showcase the power of high-fidelity simulation in healthcare

There are many proven benefits of using simulation-based training in the healthcare industry. However, some organizations might struggle to implement or sustain an effective simulation training program. Even once an organization establishes a program, it may be difficult to maintain simulation equipment, adapt to changing training needs, or meet growing demand.

Experience the NEW SimMan® Critical Care and discover how we are enhancing training for respiratory and critical care interventions.

Special Session You Can't Miss

Cultivating Maternal Competence: Advancing Competency-Based Learning with Interactive Simulation Workshop

Learning Lab Session presented by Amy Kline MA, RN, CHSE & Kellie Bryant DNP, WHNP, CHSE, FSSH, FAAN

Date: Sunday, January 12, 2025
Time: 2:00-3:30 PM EST

Course Overview

Course Overview:

In this engaging 90-minute session, we will explore the critical role of simulation in reducing maternal mortality and challenge participants to create a simulation-based curriculum to increase competency development in maternal care. We will delve into the troubling statistics of maternal mortality rates both globally and within the U.S., highlighting the disparities and discussing the preventable factors that contribute to these outcomes. The discussion will then transition to the gaps in current maternal nursing curricula and how simulation can bridge these gaps by enhancing skill acquisition, confidence, and decision-making under pressure. Participants will take part in developing a scaffolded simulation curriculum to illustrate practical approaches to caring for the pregnant person using various simulation modalities and utilize digital evaluation tools for these simulations to visualize the progression of competency development.  We will also review findings from a research study that demonstrated the value of using simulation to reduce newborn and maternal mortality and help participants see how they can translate the findings of this study to their own sites.

Objectives:

At the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • Analyze both global and U.S. maternal mortality statistics to pinpoint significant disparities affecting maternal health outcomes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively use simulation-based techniques to manage care across all stages of pregnancy,
  • Identify specific strategies to incorporate simulation into nursing education, aiming to bridge the existing gaps in maternal care competencies among nursing students.
  • Appreciate the importance of capturing data to guide learner competency development and inform curriculum changes.
